The Distance We Inherit

In 'The Distance We Inherit', London-based British-Indian painter Jake Grewal presents an arresting suite of figurative landscapes at Jhaveri Contemporary. Grewal places nude and semi-clad male figures within wild, atmospheric forests, tranquil streams, and misty nocturnal glades, evoking the Romantic tradition of Caspar David Friedrich infused with contemporary queer sensibility.

The exhibition investigates the psychic distance between ancestral homelands and diasporic realities, using natural light and elemental landscapes as stages for desire, vulnerability, and internal reckoning.
