Harvesting Light

'Harvesting Light' brings together over thirty years of quiet, rigorous abstract painting by Sir J.J. School of Art alumna Sheetal Gattani, curated by renowned art collector Anurag Khanna. In an era dominated by hyper-speed visual noise and instant spectacle, Gattani’s practice stands as a powerful, meditative antidote, asking the viewer to decelerate and contemplate.

Gattani’s technique is uniquely labor-intensive: unlike traditional painters who begin on a white ground, she begins each canvas in dense black, patiently applying dozens of translucent layers of pigment over months. In her latest works on display, Gattani introduces delicate incisions and raised relief cuts, allowing light to physically carve itself into the textured surface.
