Curatorial Essay & Exhibition Concept
In 'Home-Sick', New Delhi-based artist and researcher Garima Gupta presents a deeply researched, visually arresting body of work exploring the illicit global bird trade, deforestation, and migratory distress across Southeast Asia and India. Held at TARQ's historic gallery in Fort, Mumbai, the exhibition brings together exquisite graphite drawings, field journals, scientific vitrines, and video installations.
Gupta investigates how birds of paradise and songbirds are trapped, caged, and displaced from rainforest canopies into urban bird markets and colonial museum archives. Through exquisite precision and ethical witness, 'Home-Sick' raises urgent questions about ecological displacement, human greed, and the longing for home shared by all living creatures.
