Curatorial Essay & Exhibition Concept
'खारी गाबोली | Salted Caviar' is a profoundly personal solo exhibition by Thane-based sculptor Parag Tandel at TARQ. Rooted in his heritage as a member of the indigenous Koli fishing community of Mumbai, Tandel examines the rapid transformation of the Arabian Sea coastline and the erosion of ancestral marine traditions.
Using dried fish roe, sea salt crystals, ceramic glazes, resin casting, and cast iron, Tandel crafts sculptural relics that commemorate the Koli people's intimate relationship with the ocean. The exhibition addresses urban encroachment, coastal land reclamation, and climate degradation while preserving indigenous culinary rituals as living acts of resistance.
