Curatorial Essay & Exhibition Concept
In an unprecedented cultural collaboration between the Bihar Museum, Patna, and the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi, 'Indian Masters' showcases original works by 103 defining artists of modern India. The exhibition features non-exportable national art treasures rarely seen outside the national capital.
Encompassing oil paintings, temperas, bronzes, and graphics, the exhibition spans over a century of artistic evolution: from the pioneering academic realism of Raja Ravi Varma and the swadeshi romanticism of the Bengal School (Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee) to the bold avant-garde breakthroughs of Amrita Sher-Gil, M.F. Husain, F.N. Souza, S.H. Raza, and Ram Kumar. It stands as the most significant fine arts retrospective ever mounted in the state of Bihar.
